Yes — VA disability and Social Security Disability are separate programs, and you can receive both. Here’s how they interact.
Two different systems
VA disability compensation and SSDI are run by different agencies with different standards. The VA rates disability by percentage and allows partial ratings; the SSA is all-or-nothing — you’re either disabled under its rules or you’re not. You can qualify for one and not the other, or both.
Receiving VA disability and SSDI at the same time
There’s no offset between VA disability and SSDI — collecting one does not reduce the other. Many veterans receive full VA compensation and full SSDI simultaneously.

A 100% VA rating doesn’t automatically win SSDI, but the underlying medical evidence — C&P exams, service treatment records, rating decisions — is powerful support. The SSA must consider it.
Expedited processing for veterans
Veterans with a 100% permanent-and-total VA rating, and those who became disabled during active duty, may qualify for expedited SSDI processing. Say so when you apply.
Get representation that knows both
Dual VA + SSDI claims reward a representative who understands both systems. If you served, make sure whoever handles your claim does too.
