Veterans have more ways to speed up an SSDI decision than any other group. The complete list, and how to actually trigger each one.
Expedited SSDI for veterans rated 100% P&T
The SSA expedites claims for veterans rated 100% permanent and total by the VA. Identify yourself as a veteran and provide the rating notification at filing — expediting only happens if the flag is set, which is the first thing we check on intake. Details are on the SSA’s veterans page.
Wounded Warrior expedited claims
Service members and veterans whose disabilities arose during active duty on or after October 1, 2001 qualify for Wounded Warrior expedited handling — regardless of where the injury occurred or whether it’s combat-related.

If your diagnosis is on the CAL list — certain cancers, ALS and other neurodegenerative diseases — the claim is expedited on medical grounds independent of veteran status. ALS also carries no Medicare waiting period.
Terminal illness (TERI) flags
Claims involving terminal illness receive priority handling. The flag depends on the medical documentation using the right language — another place precise paperwork changes timelines.
Expedited isn’t automatic — or a substitute for evidence
Every fast track still requires a complete, winning file. Our job is making the claim both fast and strong: the veterans dual-claim practice handles VA and SSA evidence as one record.
